Two Ten Talks With the Women Behind Footwear Market Week
Friday, May 30, 2025
This is a big week for the footwear industry, as brands and retailers come to NYC for June market week trade shows and meetings - not to mention the Two Ten Gala on June 3. We recently caught up with two of the amazing women who help make it all possible: Phyllis Rein, president and CEO of Footwear Show New York Expo (FSNYE), and Sandi Mines, president of Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY). The conversation covered everything from what to expect in 2026 to the increasing presence of women in leadership roles in the trade show space.
What are you most looking forward to during Market Week this year?
Phyllis Rein: Learning about the “WHY” — the inspiration, and meaningful stories — that contributed to a collection is extremely insightful. This year, we have 24 new brands hailing from around the world at our show. On June 3, we're hosting a wine “Sip & See” event to showcase the South African brands and Perfect Corp., the leader in AI and AR innovation for beauty and fashion will be debuting their AI-driven footwear try-on solutions.
Sandi Mines: We are thrilled to be returning to our location at 1370, Avenue of the Americas. This place is centrally located in a building alongside 20 other footwear companies, which makes it easier for retailers to see more brands in a day. And we have 10 brands that are now officially a part of our pop-up show!
How have you seen women’s roles evolve in the industry?
SM: When it comes to trade shows, most that I've seen are run by women — and that’s no surprise. Women have a unique ability to pivot, juggle and support with both creative ideas and positive energy. There are many moving parts and daily challenges, and a trade show organizer needs to handle it all in stride and pivot when needed. I don't think that anyone could do that better than a woman could!
PR: Women's roles in the footwear industry have evolved to positions of leadership, creative direction, and entrepreneurship. Today, women are recognized as innovators, business leaders, and key drivers of both style and technological advancement in the industry. Their impact is seen in product development, marketing and in leading companies driving new trends and strategies.
What is the general feeling from the brands attending this year?
SM: Even though there's uncertainty in the market, most of our brands have long-term growth plans. They've been through challenging times before and know that there's always opportunity for growth. Even if there are rough moments, they're still going to show up and work with their retailers on the best path forward.
Do you have any ideas about what trends to expect?
PR: Footwear in 2026 is about versatility, comfort, and individuality. There is a sense of optimism in the air and innovative shoe designs indicate a dynamic and forward-thinking approach. Whether you are gravitating toward retro sneakers, artisanal woven flats, bold clogs, or hardware-heavy sandals, there’s a trend to match every style sensibility this year.
What advice would you give to a woman attending her first trade show?
PR: Dress comfortably, bring a notepad, pen, or have a digital device ready for taking notes and capturing information. Be open to exploring new styles and brands and don't hesitate to ask questions.
SM: Be prepared, educated, flexible, open and resilient!
What’s your favorite NYC spot to unwind during market week?
SM: Most people like to enjoy some light drinks for a meeting. I sometimes like to go to Jams for a glass of wine or sometimes a meal.
PR: Darling Rooftop lounge and restaurant at the Park Lane New York is my favorite NYC go to!
