Two Ten Scholar Highlight: Success Odigie

Success Odigie is a Two Ten scholar who will be a junior at the University of Cincinnati this fall. Success shared her story at Two Ten’s annual gala in early June.
As the oldest of three kids from a single parent home, Success Odigie had to grow up a little faster than most. In addition to completing her schoolwork, she often helped her mom keep the house in order and helped take care of her two younger sisters, all while in pursuit of her long-term goal of becoming a pediatrician.
“I'm lucky enough to be one of those people who has always known what I wanted to do since I was six years old,” Success said. She realized her dream during a career day in Kindergarten, when all the boys showed up as doctors and the girls — including Success – were dressed as nurses.
“I was like, ‘Why are there no girls that are doctors? Why are we only in nurse outfits?’” she said. “So I went home and decided that I wanted to be a pediatrician.”
Her determination never wavered. When the time came to think about college — and the costs associated with that — Success' mother Angela Odigie, a store manager at a Famous Footwear store, told her about the Two Ten scholarship.
“She really loved what she did,” Odigie said. “And her being able to love that job and me to be able to apply for a scholarship and be a part of this community is something I'm really grateful for.”
Today, Success is a McNair scholar at University of Cincinnati on the pre-med track, majoring in Biology with a concentration in Biomedical Studies. She’s also earned minors in Chemistry, Public Health, and Psychology and is a teaching assistant and has made the Dean’s List twice.
Outside of academics, Success is active in student government and serves on the board of the Minority Association of PreMedical Students and as an intern at ThinkNeuro. Success also holds teaching and pharmacy licenses — achievements she began working toward when she graduated high school at 16.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of Two Ten,” Success said, “They gave my mom a sense of belonging in the footwear industry—and in doing so, opened doors for me to pursue my own dreams.”
