Ashley High is currently working towards her bachelor's in business with a certification in human resources while working as a training manager at Shoe Carnival’s corporate office. She will be a junior at the University of University of Phoenix this fall.
As a Shoe Carnival training manager, Ashley High was well acquainted with Two Ten and its mission to support footwear employees across the U.S. In fact, she regularly incorporated information about the foundation in the training she created for employees.
But it wasn’t until a few years into her role that Ashley realized she could benefit from a Two Ten program herself.
“We're always talking about Two Ten at Shoe Carnival,” said Ashley. “I had heard great things about the Two Ten scholarship and have seen the impact on dependents and other employees.”
In her role, Ashley manages a learning management system at Shoe Carnival with over 6,000 users across the company. She oversees everything from instructional design and content creation to assisting with new store openings and orientations for new hires.
Over the years, Ashley’s responsibilities shifted more toward human resources. That’s when she decided it was the right time to continue her education in business and HR. She applied for and received a scholarship from Two Ten to fund her degree in business with an emphasis on human resources.
The scholarship helped me transition and change my major into what I'm currently doing in my role.
“The scholarship helped me transition and change my major into what I'm currently doing in my role,” Ashley said.
As she enters her junior year of study, Ashley is balancing her full-time career with her goals as a student. She’s grateful for the financial assistance from Two Ten that is helping motivate her to finish her degree.
“Having the financial barriers off your shoulders and knowing that you have a scholarship that will support you makes it easier,” Ashley said. “It drives you to want to want to do better and make those good grades.
As for her post-graduate goals, High is excited to continue to grow her career as an HR professional at Shoe Carnival.
“Shoe Carnival gives a canvas for you to be able to show your skill set and to show what you can do and how you can benefit the company. There is never a cutoff point where ideas are unacceptable,” Ashley said. “This has allowed me to grow and blossom."
