Two Ten Scholar Highlight: Kelvin Fonville

Wednesday, July 2, 2025

Kelvin Fonville is a Two Ten scholar who recently graduated from Hampton University with a degree in Finance. Kelvin shared a bit of his story at Two Ten’s annual gala in early June.

Growing up in a single-parent household, college wasn’t a guarantee for Kelvin Fonville. During high school, he started working at his first job as a sales associate at Foot Action, a Foot Locker store. It was there that he learned about the opportunity to apply for a scholarship from Two Ten, which he ultimately received in time for his sophomore year of college.

“I still remember the day I got accepted to college — I was at work, and my entire team celebrated with me,” Kelvin said, reflecting on the formative experience of his first job in footwear retail.

"Working at Foot Action was just so amazing, especially during Covid,” Kelvin added. “When you think of working a job when you're young, you think of it as something you don't want to do. But I looked forward to going to work every day.”

With the support of Two Ten, Kelvin recently became the first person in his family to graduate college and left a powerful legacy behind. Throughout his four years at Hampton University, Kelvin served as a leader in the HBCU, headed up community service initiatives for his fraternity, broke the conference record in track and field and became a mentor to countless students.

“Without this scholarship, a lot of the good work that I've accomplished probably wouldn't have been possible,” Kelvin said. “This scholarship is really something that has changed my life and changed a lot of other people's lives that I've encountered as well.”

Up next for Kelvin: a full-time role in asset management. But even as he ventures deeper into the finance world, Kelvin is still plugged into footwear and is even still in touch with his old store manager from his first job.

“I'm proud to talk about that first job,” Kelvin said. “It shows me how I've come such a long way.”
