Foot Locker, Champs & Team Edition are Proof that Footwear Cares

Categories: Footwear Cares, Two Ten News

Year-after-year, footwear companies step out of their offices and stores to give back to their communities. Two Ten, in conjunction with title sponsor, Shoes.com, is helping to support and promote these efforts through Footwear Cares, now in its sixth year. Since the April kick-off, footwear companies coast-to-coast have donated their time and energy through thousands of hours of volunteer work.

Foot Locker, Champs, and Team Edition have been extremely active this year. They have activated offices in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; New York, New York; Wausau, Wisconsin; and Bradenton, Florida. They have already had nine separate events, with more events scheduled throughout the summer.

They have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the Police Athletic League (PAL), God’s Love We Deliver, multiple homeless shelters, and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. This work is not only important to those receiving assistance, but it also builds a deeper connection between our volunteers and their communities. Volunteers often return having “developed a sense of purpose,” said Neal Newman in a recent article from Footwear Plus Magazine. Greg Dutter writes, in the same article, that volunteering is the “ultimate happy pill with long-lasting effects.”

In 2015, OrthoLite Chairman and CEO Glenn Barrett and his wife, Midge, endowed $500,000 to help footwear families facing catastrophic situations such as homelessness, family violence, and natural disasters. Noting their gift as one that “comes from the heart,” the Barrett’s endowment has, to date, helped nearly 100 families get back on their feet after facing dire situations. “Similar to OrthoLite’s insoles, that financial assistance is a source of comfort that provides ‘shock protection’ to these families.” Glenn joined the Two Ten Board of Directors in 2017, and has since answered calls to action including helping to provide generators to footwear families in Puerto Rico who were affected by Hurricane Maria, and actively supporting the newly formed Two Ten Associate Board by supporting their first-ever fundraising event in September. Glenn continues to live by his personal creed, which is to give back to the industry that has given him so much.
