On January 21, the footwear industry experienced the devastating loss of Vince Camuto, Founder, CEO and Chief Creative Officer of The Camuto Group and a Founder of Nine West. Mr. Camuto was a lifetime member and long-time supporter of Two Ten.
A man committed to strengthening the footwear industry through his talent and philanthropy, Mr. Camuto was recognized for his contributions many times, including the FN Lifetime Achievement Award, The ACE Visionary Award and the title of Father of the Year, awarded by the National Fathers Day/Mothers Day Council.
Mr. Camuto was an inspiration to many, both in and outside of the footwear industry. “This is a very sad moment for our industry. Vince was one of the most inspiring and caring people I have had the privilege to know and work with.” said Anna Bakst, Group President – Accessories and Footwear at Michael Kors. “Vince’s generosity to so many causes established him as a philanthropic leader in our industry. He was a mentor to so many of us and he will be greatly missed….a gap never to be filled.”
In addition to his achievements, Mr. Camuto left us with this inspiring advice: Life is an adventure, seize the opportunity and find your passion.
Vince was one in a million, remarked Diane Sullivan, President, CEO and Chairman of Brown Shoe Company. We have lost a powerful force that was instrumental in putting our industry on the map. He was an incredible merchant whose passion for women and footwear allowed him to create not just one successful company, but two. He was a natural and we are so grateful for the foundation he built for all of us.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Louise, his five children, family and friends.
