Giving New Meaning to “Charity Starts at Home”

Categories: Two Ten News, Uncategorized

“Charity starts at home” is a well-known saying that captures how we learn as children to become charitable human beings. DSW takes a similar approach to this lead-by-example philosophy by encouraging – and volunteering alongside – their employees to give back to their community.

DSW’s Corporate charitable giving begins at the top, with Executive Chairman Jay Schottenstein extending his own family’s mission to give back into his family of companies, where he infuses quiet-but-consistent corporate citizenship into company culture.

DSW Vice Chairman and Chief Merchandising Officer Debbie Ferree is an innovative activist who has helped to expand the impact of the Two Ten Scholarship program by increasing our scholarship funds to better support the financial needs of our footwear families.

As corporate leaders, Jay and Debbie are an unstoppable duo that embody the mission of Two Ten and make volunteering for our Foundation a priority for their employees.

The launch of their new cause marketing program, DSW Gives, exemplifies their core philanthropic priorities of empowerment, wellness and the local community.

At their DSW Gives launch event, Jonica Armstrong, Community Relations Manager and Two Ten Associate Board member said, “Through DSW Gives, we are partnering with organizations that foster empowerment, discourage bullying, celebrate individuality and encourage people’s health and wellness.”  The families impacted by this program will experience change in their homes, schools, and communities where DSW Gives has partner organizations.

With a steadfast commitment to charity, DSW is truly a philanthropic example to follow in the footwear industry. Charity does indeed begin at home – and in caring companies — and we are grateful to partner with an organization who sees the power in improving the quality of life for our footwear neighbors
