About WIFI’s Mentoring Program

The Women In Footwear Industry (WIFI) Mentoring Program facilitates one-to-one mentoring relationships that connect mentees with leaders across the footwear industry to learn and develop. Career mentoring helps you to expand networks, gain new knowledge and insights, and build new skills.

This mentee-driven, nine-month program facilitates one-to-one mentoring relationships that connect female professionals across the footwear industry.

The application process for the 2019-2020 program IS NOW OPEN! The deadline to submit is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th, with mentor/mentee matches kicking off on September 23, 2019. Mentoring pairs will be connected through the beginning of June, 2020.

As a MENTEE you can expect to experience the joy of giving and receiving and have someone from which to seek advice outside of your current work environment.  Studies have shown that mentees experience higher career satisfaction, career commitment, mobility, and positive attitudes.

Mentee Requirements:

  • Mentee must currently be working in the footwear industry and have a minimum of 1-year footwear experience and/or 3 years in a current discipline (i.e. marketing, e:commerce, etc).
  • Mentee must be willing to assess areas of development and create a plan to achieve these development goals.
  • Mentee must take responsibility for driving the relationship both through scheduling and preparing monthly agendas for discussion.

Mentee Expectations:

  • A commitment to be part of the program for 9 months, meeting for at least 1 hour per month via phone, face-to-face or online meeting platform.
  • A commitment to take initiative with respect to the mentee-driven relationship. As a mentee, you will assess your areas of strength and development to establish a mentoring plan and engage your mentor to ensure that you attain your goals.
  • Mentee must commit to driving the mentor relationship by scheduling monthly meetings and agendas, proactively asking for help.
  • Mentee must be open and accepting of praise and criticism.
  • Mentee must agree to regularly review goals and objectives.
  • Mentee must complete training, program tools, and a final program survey at the end of the calendar year.

As a MENTOR you can expect to experience the joy of giving and receiving and expand your awareness by seeing the working world through another’s perspective. Research shows that mentors are six times more likely to advance in their own career by participating in a mentoring program.

Mentor Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years in the footwear industry in your area of discipline and a total of 10 years of business experience.
  • A commitment to be part of the program for 9 months, meeting for at least 1 hour per month via phone, face-to-face or online meeting platform.
  • A commitment to set aside at least 1 hour per month to work in person or virtually with Mentee.

Please Note: *If you are an entrepreneur, you need to have been in business for at least 1 year to qualify.

Mentor Expectations:

  • As a MENTOR you will provide guidance, be a resource, advisor teacher and coach, share experiences and help your mentee to find access to an appropriate expert if you cannot answer a question.
  • Work with the mentee to develop goals and outcomes.
  • Be open to personal growth that may develop as part of the process.
  • Put aside at least 1 hour per month for mentee relationship.
  • Complete training and mid and final program survey.
